We’re back with another review of a product from Czech anti-dust mite bedding manufacturer nanoSPACE. This time, we’ve tried out their anti-dust mite duvet cover. If you’ve been following our reviews, you’ll know we already have an anti-dust mite duvet at home. So why did we buy a duvet cover that, in terms of effectiveness, we don’t technically need? Read on to find out.

What is an anti-dust mite duvet cover for?

An anti-dust mite duvet cover for allergy sufferers is designed to protect the duvet from dust mite penetration, thereby reducing the risk of allergic reactions. These covers are usually made from tightly woven fabrics specifically engineered to stop mites from getting inside the duvet.

Anti-dust mite covers don’t just help allergy sufferers manage their symptoms — they also lead to better sleep. That said, not every anti-dust mite cover is 100% reliable. Even if a manufacturer claims full protection against dust mites, that isn’t always the case. The effectiveness really comes down to the material used. Anti-dust mite covers are made from:

How does the nanoSPACE anti-dust mite duvet cover work?

In the Czech Republic, nanoSPACE is one of the most trusted manufacturers of anti-dust mite bedding. The nanoSPACE anti-dust mite duvet cover works thanks to a special nanofabric that effectively captures all dust — including invisible particles — keeping the duvet clean at all times. The nanofabric is also 100% breathable, ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep without sweating.

The pores in the material measure approximately 80 nm — many times smaller than a house dust mite (which, for perspective, is around 420,000 nm), its spores, bacteria, viruses, and scabies mites. In practice, this means that these microorganisms simply cannot pass through the fabric, so they can’t accumulate in the duvet, multiply, or trigger allergic reactions or breathing difficulties.

Our review of the nanoSPACE anti-dust mite duvet cover

The anti-dust mite duvet cover with nanofibres is one of three options. The other two are an anti-dust mite duvet and bed linen. To protect yourself from dust mites, you only ever need one of these solutions. At home, we sleep happily under our anti-dust mite duvet. So what do we do with the cover?

We bought the anti-dust mite duvet cover for our countryside cottage, where we spend most weekends from spring onwards. Since we only sleep there occasionally, investing in a full duvet didn’t make much sense — so we went with the more affordable option. Read on to find out how we’ve got on with it. 😊

Packaging

The packaging held no surprises — but in the best possible way. We’ve come to expect the sturdy recyclable box with its spiderweb design from nanoSPACE. It featured a dark blue paper band with the manufacturer’s logo and basic product information.

Inside the box, alongside the cover itself, we found a thank-you note, an explanation of how the nanofibre membrane works, and care instructions.

Material quality and stitching

The nanoSPACE anti-dust mite duvet cover is made from high-quality material — you can tell just by touching it. It feels soft and smooth. To be more specific, it’s made of 99.9% polyester (microfibre fabric) and 0.1% polyamide 6 (nanofibre membrane). It also holds the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification for material safety.

The quality of the stitching is clearly a priority for the manufacturer too. The cover is nicely sturdy, and we didn’t spot a single loose thread — and we’ve still got eagle eyes, trust us. 😉 The cover also features a zip that runs smoothly without snagging, making it a breeze to put on and take off.

We have the cover in the 140×200 cm size. nanoSPACE offers a good range of standard sizes, so you’re sure to find one that fits. The available options also include 90×135, 140×220, 200×200, 220×200, 240×200, 220×220, and 240×220 cm.

If none of the standard sizes suits your needs — say you need an 80×120 cm cover — you can request a custom-made cover from nanoSPACE.

Effectiveness

The cover’s effectiveness has been confirmed by testing at the Textile Testing Institute in Brno, the Technical University of Liberec, and the National Institute of Public Health in Prague. It was verified to effectively capture microorganisms and dust particles, while also ruling out any adverse reaction upon contact with human skin.

Even though we’re no experts, the difference after switching to anti-dust mite bedding at the cottage is hard to miss. We clean regularly, but we can’t fully prevent dust build-up. When we get into bed, though, we no longer have any sneezing issues — unlike before we started using the anti-dust mite covers. That speaks for itself, doesn’t it?

Care

Before putting the cover on, nanoSPACE recommends washing the duvet at 60 °C to kill any dust mites already living inside. Once the duvet is inside the anti-dust mite cover, you then put your regular bed linen over the top.

When you next change your bed linen, there’s no need to wash the cover. Simply wipe it down with a damp cloth or vacuum it. The nanoSPACE anti-dust mite duvet cover should be washed once a year without fabric softener at 40 °C (or 60 °C if needed) using a chlorine- and phosphate-free washing gel or powder. After washing, let it air-dry. A tumble dryer could damage the nanofibre membrane.
