How to choose a sheet for a child’s cot?

When picking a sheet for a child’s cot, two things matter most: size and material. The sheet should fit the mattress dimensions exactly so it doesn’t slip off the moment your little one wriggles even slightly.

Choosing the right material can be trickier. Once you understand the options and their pros and cons, though, the decision becomes much easier. Children’s sheets are typically made from:

How does the children’s zip-on mattress sheet made from Nanocotton® work?

The children’s Nanocotton® sheet can fully replace a separate anti-dust-mite mattress encasement. Nanocotton® is an innovative textile that combines a popular cotton sateen with a functional nanofibre fabric. It is precisely the nanofibres that create an impenetrable barrier, preventing dust mites, viruses and bacteria from getting through the sheet.

Our verdict on the children’s zip-on Nanocotton® mattress sheet

We’ve been using the nanoSPACE zip-on mattress encasement for quite a while now and are more than happy with it. When they launched a children’s sheet that’s even more practical, we had to try it straight away. If you’re a parent, you’ll know that practicality plays a huge role in childcare — sometimes it’s the deciding factor. Here’s what we think of the children’s zip-on Nanocotton® sheet.

Packaging

The children’s sheet arrived in a cardboard box decorated with a web-like design. Unlike the other anti-dust-mite bedding products that feature a dark blue paper band, the Nanocotton® range is marked with a beige one. On it you’ll find the product name and dimensions, as usual.

Inside the box we found an information leaflet covering nanofibre technology and care instructions. We were slightly surprised to notice a few dark specks on the sheet. A quick check on the nanoSPACE website explained that these are remnants of the cotton plant — proof that the cotton is genuinely organic and has not been bleached or dyed.

Material quality and stitching

The organic cotton feels wonderfully soft to the touch, which was a very pleasant surprise. It also holds GOTS certification. This internationally recognised standard covers the entire production process for organic fibre textiles — from processing, manufacturing and packaging to labelling, trading and distribution. GOTS is considered one of the highest standards in the textile industry, guaranteeing that the fabric meets strict environmental and social criteria.

When a sheet needs to encase the entire mattress — top and bottom — quality stitching is absolutely essential. The seams are very sturdy, the zip glides smoothly without snagging, and the corners sit exactly where they should. We ordered the 120 × 60 cm size, but a 140 × 70 cm option is available too. If neither size fits your cot, nanoSPACE can make a custom-sized sheet to order.

Performance

Our son has allergies and at home he’s been happily sleeping on an anti-dust-mite mattress encasement with no issues at all. We decided to test the children’s zip-on Nanocotton® sheet at our holiday cottage. Honestly, he didn’t notice any difference — as long as nothing is poking or scratching him, he’s content.

What matters to us, though, is that the allergy symptoms he used to struggle with didn’t flare up, even in a different environment. He sleeps through the night without waking and doesn’t sweat. We can confidently vouch for the effectiveness of the Nanocotton® anti-dust-mite children’s sheet.
