If you’re considering buying dust mite-proof bedding, the anti dust mite duvet for allergy sufferers from nanoSPACE deserves a spot on your radar. We chose the all-year version for testing so we wouldn’t need to buy a separate duvet for summer and another for winter. Read on to find out how we got on with the all-year allergy duvet from nanoSPACE.
What does an anti-allergy duvet do?
An anti-allergy duvet is designed to minimise the risk of allergic reactions in people prone to allergies. Allergy duvets are typically made from materials that resist the allergens you’re most likely to encounter in bed — namely dust mites, feathers, and dust. For allergy sufferers, manufacturers produce:
- Duvets with hypoallergenic filling – A hypoallergenic filling replaces traditional down. Although there’s a wide range of options, including synthetic fibres, polyester, and viscose, these only help people who are allergic to feathers. They can’t deal with dust mites and their allergens, and some materials may not be particularly breathable.
- Duvets with microfibres – Microfibres are very fine and tightly packed together, but on their own they can’t prevent dust mites and their allergens (droppings) from penetrating inside, so they won’t fully protect you from allergies. Microfibres also tend to build up static electricity, which may not suit everyone.
- Duvets with nanofibres – Nanofibres are far smaller than microfibres, which means neither dust mites nor their droppings can get through to the filling. The main downside is a somewhat higher price.
How does the nanoSPACE anti dust mite duvet work?
The anti dust mite duvet from nanoSPACE contains a nanofibre membrane that prevents dust mites, their allergens, viruses, and bacteria from living and breeding inside the filling. The gaps between individual fibres measure just 80 nm. To put that in perspective, a dust mite is around 420,000 nm and its allergen about 1,000 nm — so nothing has a chance of getting through.
Think of the nanoSPACE material as a sandwich: the top layer is a fabric made from 100% polyester microfibre, the middle is the nanofibre membrane, and the reverse side is a 100% polyester knit. The microfibre and knit make the duvet soft and gentle to the touch, while the nanofibre membrane acts as the barrier.
Our verdict on the nanoSPACE all-year anti dust mite duvet
We often stress that you won’t win the battle against dust mites with just a dust mite-proof pillow or a single cover. You need to kit out your entire bed with nano-membrane bedding. A while back it was time to add a dust mite-proof duvet to the mix. We went for the all-year version, mainly to keep costs down.

Packaging
As we’ve come to expect from nanoSPACE, the packaging was spot on. The anti dust mite duvet arrived in a translucent, zip-close bag decorated with a cobweb motif. There’s also a carry handle at the top, making it easy to take the duvet with you when travelling or moving house. That bag will come in handy many times over.

Tucked into the sides were three information leaflets. The first identified the product type and dimensions, the second showed a graphic breakdown of the duvet’s composition, and the third explained how to care for it and how to make sure your bed stays dust mite-free.

Material quality and stitching
We really appreciate that the duvet is quilted — this keeps the filling from shifting to one side and ensures it stays evenly distributed. The edging around the duvet is very sturdy, and in our opinion there’s no risk of it wearing through when you put the cover on.
We can also confirm that the material feels pleasant. However, since we always put the duvet inside our own cover, this isn’t the first thing we pay attention to. It might matter more to you, though, so you’ll be glad to know that the all-year allergy duvet holds OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification for fabric safety.

The 140×200 cm size works perfectly for us, but you can also get the anti dust mite duvet in 140×220 cm and 200×220 cm. Naturally, the larger the size, the higher the price.
Performance
We bought the duvet about a month ago along with the all-year anti dust mite bedding set, which also includes a pillow. Once you have the dust mite-proof duvet and pillow, there’s no need to add a separate dust mite-proof cover on top. One barrier is enough — either the duvet itself, a cover, or an encasement.
TIP: Review of the all-year anti dust mite bedding set
The dust mite-proof duvet works brilliantly. We no longer sneeze during the night or toss and turn, and in the morning there’s none of the itchy skin we used to struggle with. Its effectiveness is further backed by testing at verified institutions.
We should mention that we tested the duvet through autumn and winter, so we can’t yet say how its thickness will feel in summer. That said, the nanoSPACE all-year anti dust mite duvet is designed for a room temperature of around 22 °C and is breathable, so we’re confident we won’t overheat under it.
If your bedroom tends to be a different temperature, you might want to choose a different option. NanoSPACE offers a total of 5 types of anti dust mite duvets.
Care and maintenance
Once the duvet arrives, you can put a cover on it straight away — there’s no need to wash it first. The dust mite-proof duvet is lightweight, so putting on a cover is quick and easy.
The all-year anti dust mite duvet should be washed once or twice a year at 40 °C (in acute cases you can set the machine to 60 °C). Wash it without fabric softener and use a liquid detergent or powder free of chlorine and phosphorus.

While a tumble dryer can save a lot of time, with this duvet it could do more harm than good. The nanoSPACE anti dust mite duvet should not be tumble-dried, even on a low setting, because the heat could damage the nanofibre membrane and the duvet would lose its protective properties. It’s best to let it air-dry instead.
